KALYZÉE CREATES KAST AT MIT DURING THE OPEN EDX CONFERENCE AND FINISHES 1ST IN THE HACKATHON COMPETITION!

Marseille, October 15, 2015. On October 12th and 13th, 2015, Kalyzée created Kast at the Open edX conference and hackathon at MIT in Boston. The Open edX Conference is the annual gathering of the Open edX community. This event, coupled with a hackathon, aims to contribute and create new features for the open-source platform, Open edX, and brings together nearly 200 specialists from around the world every year.

Building on its success in the French edition last June with KNOTES, Kalyzée flew to Boston to renew the experience at the legendary MIT, the founding institution alongside Harvard of the edX platform.

The team created KAST, an application for creating videos that combines PowerPoint or PDF files with video images obtained from a webcam, all integrated into the Open edX platform. The source code is available here.

KAST received 100 votes out of 167, nearly 70% of the votes. The project ranked 1st, far ahead of the second project, which received 27 votes. (Find all the official results here). This outcome validates the interest of the EdTech community in the solution, and Kalyzée will continue its development.

Video Production: The Major Barrier to Digitizing Content for Creating MOOCs

The major barrier to creating educational videos is the production process itself. Producing a video requires multiple skills: scripting, filming, editing. In addition, there's the issue of encoding, hosting, and distributing videos. Audiovisual production also entails significant costs. In the field of education, the demand to simplify video production and, more importantly, to reduce costs is very high. Solutions that address this need seem to have a promising future.
